G-1 Jacket - The Navy legend with mouton collar

The G-1 is the direct successor to the M-422A, the original Navy jacket of the US Navy and Marine Corps pilots of the Second World War.

Mitchell Mfg. reproduces the most beautiful and most elaborate G-1, the 55J14 of 1947, which was issued to the US Navy and the Marines. Corsair, Bearcat, Skyraider or F9F Panther: the 55J14 found its way onto every carrier and into every cockpit.

The 55J14 is defined by its distinctive mouton collar, which all but flatters the wearer’s neck, and by the large patch front pockets with their characteristic synthetic resin buttons and a built-in pen holder. The flared back pleats give the G-1 the greatest possible comfort, whether you are flying a Corsair or out in a convertible.

Every G-1 was and still is made exclusively from goatskin, which gives it its unmistakable character. The Mitchell 55J14 uses a specially selected, extra soft grainy leather in Seal Brown, just like the original. The G-1 also has an inside pocket on the left side of the chest for stowing maps.

Further authentic details of the Mitchell G-1 are the unusual knitted waistband, knitted from 100 % wool in Seal Brown in a bi-directional weave rib rack, the correct satin lining in Dark Brown, and the Talon zipper.

The G-1 is so popular that it is still produced for the US Navy today. It owes its international fame to the film Top Gun, in which Tom Cruise wears a G-1 as Pete Mitchell.
