Luftwaffe 1941 "Alaska"
The "Alaska" sheepskin jacket reproduced by Mitchell Mfg was manufactured from 1941 by "Loutre AG" from Sofia Bulgaria for the German Luftwaffe to meet the demand for winter clothing for the flying units on the Eastern Front. Matching the jacket, there were also "Kanalhose" made of grown sheepskin. Contrary to the usual war production technique where all fur colors and pieces of fur are somehow made to fit, we attach great importance to high quality. Our "Alaska" reproduction jacket is naturally tanned from grown sheepskin. The characteristic large dark brown collar is made of 7-10 cm long sheepskin, just like the original.
The "Alaska" is closed with a large 6 size swiss „Riri“ zipper. There is a „Zipp“ zipper at the end of each sleeve and a leather flap with a press stud to secure the zipper. A storm flap made of gray-blue cotton fabric is sewn into the cuff and can be closed with a press stud. There is a map pocket on the left side of the chest and a leather flap on the right side to secure the oxygen mask hose with a clip. The "Alaska" also has two pockets as hand warmers, which are lined with fur and can be closed with a press stud. The waistband of the "Alaska" is made of gray-blue cotton fabric and is also fastened with two press studs. A cotton band with buckles on the inside can be used to adjust the width of the waistband. The outside of the fur is naturally tanned, which makes the jacket very susceptible to dirt. However, this can be kept to a minimum with a good waterproofing spray. On the other hand, this is how the jacket develops its character!
Whether you want to drive with your convertible open in wintertime or fly in the open cockpit, with the "Alaska" from Mitchell Mfg you are not only stylish but also warm on the road and in the air.
